Eco Red Shield Coatings Approved For Use in Hawaii
Eco Red Shield™ Receives Approval MM2012-0060 for Use by Honolulu Building Department
VISTA, Calif., Oct. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Eco Building Products, Inc. (OTCBB: ECOB) announced today that the Company's flag ship product Eco Red Shield has been approved for use in Hawaii by the Department of Planning and Permitting Building Division, City and County of Honolulu. The basis of approval for use is in conjunction with the ICC-ES Engineering Services Report (ESR-3255) currently in effect. Hawaii approval MM2012-0060 will remain in effect for three years and subject to standard building department regulations.
Hawaiian building codes enforce some of the most stringent regulations in respect to Formosan termite protection, requiring virtually the entire wood framed structure to meet approved treatments against wood-rot decay and termite protection. For decades all wood framing members have been subject to traditional pressure treating methodologies using Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT), with exposure limitations to weathering and structural strength. The Company's Hawaiian approval elevates Eco Red Shield protection to be on par with traditional treatments for wood-rot decay and Formosan termite protection. Additionally Eco Red Shield offers class "A" fire protection – 1 hour rating for solid sawn lumber – exposure to the elements - AWPA UC3, GREENGUARD Children & Schools(sm) approval and mold protection for the entire structure. Eco Red Shield coatings being a topically approved process will not degrade structural strength allowing treatment of all Engineered Wood Products and our polymer additives keep the coating solids from washing out of the substrate, which is a major concern due to the amount of rain in the region.
The Company is ready to distribute Eco Red Shield into the Hawaiian market from our approved manufacturing facility located in Salem, Oregon. The majority of the lumber shipped into the Hawaiian Islands originates from the Pacific Northwestern coast of the USA. Application of Eco Red Shield prior to shipment will provide protection from mold and weathering during the ocean freight process providing the consumer with a fully protected product from the mills at lower costs.
"The recognition of Eco Red Shield coatings by Hawaiian Building Officials is another triumph in creating the paradigm shift in the industry. Being recognized for use in Hawaii will open up several international markets for the use of Eco Red Shield. Hawaii is home of the world's most nasty Formosan termites as does the continent of Africa and other sub-tropical regions. Eco Red Shield protection is equivalent to the traditional methods with the added benefits of Fire and Mold protection providing the consumer with a better product at a lower cost. It is a matter of time before Eco Red Shield becomes the Hawaiian standard of choice," stated Steve Conboy President and CEO of Eco Building Products, Inc. "Our Company continues striving to raise the bar in the industry. Our Hawaiian approval is just another example of the future of ECOB," added Conboy.
